‘Hot Fuzz’: Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson Get Guns

Hot Fuzz, released last weekend and currently in 6th place, has gained $5.85 million in revenue and continues to climb the box office. For those who have not been previously exposed to the works the brilliant “British duo” of Nick Frost and Simon Pegg, I would say you’re about to have two new favorite movies. Pegg and Frost’s previously released Shaun of the Dead has gained much success across the world gaining $30 million worldwide at the box office. Shaun of the Dead is a romantic, comedy, zombie, film that is non-stop comedy and horror. The romantic back story is minuscule and almost irrelevant; in other words, it’s definitely not a chick flick. For those who have been exposed to British humor from such works as the Monty Python films, … Read entire article »

Media Big-Shots Go Crazy for Sanjaya

Last night was the annual White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in DC. This is the third year Trashwire has gone to the event and we always have a great time. The first time we went was in 2005 when one of my all-time heroes, South Park co-creator Trey Parker, was a guest of the Denver Post. My dream of all dreams came true and we were able to meet Parker and talk to him about Colorado, college, Trashwire, and more. Last year, we attended the event again and also went to a few of the parties before the big dinner. That was equally awesome because we were able to mingle with some big time celebrities, hang out with Ace Young and Mandisa from American Idol and even snap a couple … Read entire article »

‘Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters’ Doesn’t Live Up to the TV Series

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters opened yesterday to rather scathing reviews. Being a huge fan of the Adult Swim series, I ignored all the critics and went to see the movie anyway. The film begins with a brilliantly hilarious mock-up of drive-in style concessions advertisements. You might remember seeing an old animated ad where a box of candy, a soda, a hot dog, and other food items dance across the screen singing about the snacks you should go buy. This intro presents a different take on those concessions ads by throwing in food items singing a hard rock tune about proper movie etiquette. Listen for lyrics about not pulling your penis out in the theater or threats of running over crying babies with a car. With … Read entire article »

Playing “Rock Paper Scissors” with Ian Bagg

Ian Bagg, a Vancouver native, has had a prestigious career. He has risen through the ranks and earned the glorious Comedy Central Presents half-hour special. Bagg gained much success in Canada and has also been touring in the American comedy circuit (New York, L.A., Houston, etc.) for 12 years. He has even been a featured MySpace comedian. Having odd connections to Houston, as well as being a genius with words and hecklers, Bagg is a comic that does not leave any stone unturned. This past Saturday, Bagg gave a brilliant performance in Houston. His style is very playful and interactive with the audience, even nicknaming a pair of girls in the crowd Oprah and Gale. He also brings humorous observations to the table. In one situation a young women came up … Read entire article »

One Night Standup with Nick Swardson

Trashwire is growing by leaps and bounds in 2007 and we’re happy to welcome our newest writer, Wil Chinchilla. Wil recently sat down with one of the hottest comedians around, Nick Swardson, to talk about standup, gay robots, and everyone’s favorite roller skating male prostitute. If you want to be cool like Wil and submit stories to Trashwire, click here to go to the submissions page. Nick Swardson has been doing standup since the age of 19. Since then Swardson has had two half-hour specials on Comedy Central, been a spokesperson for a soft drink, written/co-written three major motion picture scripts, and is currently on a “big standup tour” throughout all improv comedy clubs. On February 17, the very straight (not gay despite certain characters) Swardson performed for a full crowd … Read entire article »
