Same jokes different character on The Cleveland Show

The story of Family Guy is a miraculous one: Seth MacFarlane creates a TV show that gets cancelled by FOX, only to be resurrected by fans after finding new life on DVD. But the unfortunate side effect of this success story is that it now seems FOX believes MacFarlane can do no wrong and has granted him two additional animated series, the less-funny American Dad and the newest, completely un-funny addition, The Cleveland Show. … Read entire article »

Modern Family a fresh take on the network sitcom

This might sound like a backhanded compliment, but ABC’s new series Modern Family is way better than you would expect for a family comedy on network TV. Typically network comedy means we see the same generic character types and jokes about as fresh as ripe Gorgonzola delivered by actors on well-lit Hollywood sets in front of a live studio audience. Modern Family, which premieres Wednesday September 23rd at 9/8c on ABC, drops the canned laughter and utilizes the pseudo-documentary style popularized by great comedies like The Office to showcase the lives of a set of interconnected families in your typical suburb. … Read entire article »

Touching tribute to the King of Pop upstaged by Kanye’s award show terrorism

Oh the VMAs! Where do I start? With the passing of Michael Jackson, I was worried that the days of precision choreography, visual feasts for the eyes and pop songs you didn’t mind hearing a zillion times on Top 40 radio were a thing of the past. Thankfully MTV seemed to subscribe to the “go big or go home” philosophy with last night’s Video Music Awards. … Read entire article »

Mini characters fight a large scale apocalypse in Shane Acker’s ’9′

The film 9 was first an Academy Award winning short of the same title by director Shane Acker. The short took the non-verbal Wall-E route while the new seventy-nine-minute feature consists of an entire ensemble. Although the voice acting adds to the experience of the film, the action, mystery, and originality of 9 evokes what a post apocalyptic world might look like for robotic rag-dolls. The vision and excution is memorable, but the western style of story telling deviates this new feature from the original charm of the short. … Read entire article »

Clark Duke steals the show in Sex Drive

It would be easy to dismiss Sex Drive as your typical teen sex comedy. It’s got gross-out gags, tons of sex jokes and enough nudity to score an R rating. But there’s one very important thing that the film has going for it, something that makes it worth watching regardless of how many of these American-Pie-type comedies you’ve sat through, and that’s Clark Duke of ClarkandMichael.com. … Read entire article »
