Is it all a spool of lies?

Today, the HGs were visited by some interesting characters. First, a little person in a Mad Hatter costume appeared and kept repeating common phrases. Then, BB made an announcement that it was 12:36 and 47 seconds. Next, the HGs went outside to find a pirate on stilts and a barber shop quartet. When they returned inside, there were three white rabbits on the dining room table and a living statue near the front door.

All these things have set their heads spinning and they’re frantically trying to figure out the meaning behind these symbols. It’s like watching a moron version of the Da Vinci Code. I’m not sure what it all means, but I’m happy that it gave them all something else to talk about besides the same boring crap they’ve been rehashing for the past few days. While everyone racked their brain, Eric seemed rather disinterested in the clues, making Dustin and Jessica suspicious.

At the same time, Eric must have received his orders from America and I’m guessing they said he has to vote out Dustin. (Thank you America!) He’s been campaigning to vote Dustin out all day and he’s even cut a deal with Dick and Danielle to keep them in the house. Meanwhile, Dustin has proclaimed that he is 99% certain he is staying in the house and not at all worried about being evicted. It would be so awesome if he got voted out tomorrow. The look on his face would be completely priceless. This show is lacking big surprise votes and that could really shake things up.

On that note, I want to address all the people who constantly whine that being America’s Player in hindering Eric’s game and that it’s not fair. This also goes for all the people who say, “Dick’s mean, they shouldn’t have to live with him. He should be voted out.”

First, quit whining. You’re as bad as Danielle.

Second, being America’s Player is probably the only thing that makes Eric even memorable in this cast. The dude is lame, let’s face it. He’s boring, his freaky pointy eyebrow is annoying, and he wishes he was cool so badly that it’s embarrassing to watch. If Eric wasn’t America’s Player, you’d have all hated him and wanted him gone in the second week. May I remind you that most people hated Eric in the first week and hoped he would get voted out instead of Carol. Now, all of a sudden, everyone loves Eric and wants to keep him so they can have a hand in the game through the AP vote.

I feel the same about all the people on various boards, blogs, etc. that are bashing Dick for his antics. Everyone gets all worked up when Dick calls someone out, pours a drink on Jen’s head, or makes fun of Jameka’s hypocritical Christianity. Do I need to remind you guys that his is a tv show? It’s supposed to have heroes and villains and outbursts are what keep it entertaining. Would you rather watch Dustin and Jessica lounge around in bed all day long or Amber repeating herself about her meth use over and over? Dick starting shit within the game is what makes this a tv show and not a university sociology study. Let’s not forget that without the show and the ratings, there would be no $500,000, no house, no internet feed, no daily three hour Showtime spin off, no chat rooms, no blogs, and no fans. This whole thing would cease to exist if people didn’t watch… and part of the reason people watch is so that they can see others behaving badly and having screaming fights, all from the comforts of their own couch.

I’m truly hoping that Dustin is evicted this week because it would be something entertaining. In my opinion, the show’s been lacking anything captivating for a while now. Maybe if Dustin is caught off guard, he’ll have a little diva fit on his way out the door.

Even better would be if all these clues were the sign of another twist. Perhaps someone will come back in the house, perhaps we’ll have a platinum veto, perhaps we’ll have a double HOH. Who can know for sure? The point is, hopefully the producers are cooking up a way to breathe some life into this show because it’s starting to hit that mid season slump.

No one online is quite sure of the meaning behind today’s visitors to the house, but I hope the whole thing is a symbol of coming change, and not just a spool of lies.

Another interesting post. I of course disagree w/ a lot of what you said. I am not sure if you were including me when you mentioned people who support Eric and dislike Dick. In the case that you do, I just want to re-clarify some of my points.

    Dick.
I am not for or against Dick being voted out of the house. I am not rooting for any one person and wouldn’t care that much who won the game at this point. My problem with Dick is that he is immature. You make a good argument that he is entertaining and you seem to have a better pulse of America than I do (i.e. you miss Nick greatly, you can’t stand Eric) but for me that’s a serious turnoff. I look at television a little differently than most others. I actually appreciate different types of genres. In college I headed up our college television station’s entertainment department so I guess it’s hammered into me that a drama is a drama, a comedy is a comedy, and so on. So when I watch a reality television show, I look at it as real people doing things in the real world but w/ crazy parameters. I do not look at it as a comedy, or as a drama, or as a thriller; I look at it as a reality show. I am open to multi-genre shows (i.e. the romantic comedy and what not) but there needs to be a primary genre. Big Brother’s primary genre is reality.

Big Brother is one of two reality shows I watch (the other being the Surreal Life). The reason is because I expect the show to be based on reality and on actual real people. If these people are rude, disgusting, arrogant, or basically people I don’t want to be around in my life, I am not going to watch the show. Why I watch Big Brother is because there is a nice balance (and please remember I don’t follow it like many do. I stopped watching the after dark show, monitoring the net, and watching the feeds). If this show was full of Dicks (hahaha, nice pun), I wouldn’t watch the show period. This is the reason why I didn’t watch Season 6 because based on first impressions these didn’t seem like a community you would find in the real world (I would later regret this decision because it seemed like James, Kaysar, and the other BB6 people on All-stars were a neat group of people).

Back on point though. I wouldn’t and haven’t pushed for Dick to be evicted because of his attitude or actions. I just want him to grow up. To me this is reality tv, and he should act like a 40 year old would act in reality. If that’s the way he acts in real life - fine, but just like in real life, I am not rooting extra hard for the guy because he is immature (or as you would say ‘entertaining’).

    Eric.
You are right on the money about me wanting him to stay in the game because he is America’s player even though I don’t vote for these America’s Choice things. I will also admit that I do think being America’s player is hindering his own game but I am not sure if it’s unfair. It’s unfair in only one way: America is purposely trying to rid America’s player. I said it before and I will say it again, Eric is a douche bag but he is still America’s player. From my perspective you have to get behind him but this depends on your perspective. For me, I see the role of America’s player is to play the game as if America was in the house. For others though, they might see the role of America’s player as something more. They can do whatever they want with the player even if it means it will cause their player to lose the game. Personally, I think that is poor sportsmanship but again that’s based on my personal perspective of what the role of America’s player should be.

Regarding Eric bringing little to the game, I think that relates to my above point regarding Dick. Personally, I would watch the show if Eric was on it. He is annoying but not annoying enough for me to turn off the television. Dick is obnoxious and makes me want to turn off the television. But again, it’s a personal opinion. If you see Big Brother as just another entertainment show I guess you make a solid point. I don’t see it as another television show and expect certain things out of it. Eric seems real and thus would make a good participant in a reality tv show. Then again, I only watch two reality tv shows (does American Idol count as reality tv or a game show?) so again, I don’t have the pulse of America like you do.

I don’t want to see Eric go simply because he is America’s player but if America wants him out, so be it. It might sound like I am rooting for Eric but actually I am just rooting for the America’s player role and even at that I am not even necessarily rooting for whoever has that role to win, just have the role exist until its erased through good competition not by sabotage.

    —-
Tonight’s show was a good show. Dustin getting evicted brings new life to the show. You have a shift of power and like with every shift so far, its not going to go as smoothly as planned so that should be good. Um, I am happy that Eric was able to spin America’s choice into serving him. If that was America’s intention, I am definitely down with that. If not, I am okay with that too. It’s also great to see Eric is finally realizing America is not rooting for him. He didn’t actually say that but you could read his expressions in the diary room. I didn’t necessarily want to see Dustin go (and that does not mean I wanted to see Dick go either) but I just wanted America to play in what was in Eric’s best interest (aka America’s best interest). I want to say Danielle winning HOH brings more interest to the show but I am not sure. Based on what CBS aired the teams are very lopsided so it seems pretty clear Jameka and Amber are the targets this week. If I didn’t watch the show, I would have been more intrigued because Jessica and Eric would also be targets (but who knows maybe they will be).

Again, thanks for letting me ramble.
