Week 3 – Nominations
It is so hot! I have not put up my air conditioner yet this summer and I am wondering if its too late to even do it now? So because its difficult to go to sleep while sweating (except after a good workout), I am here to write about week 3’s nominations in the Big Brother house.
I already know my predictions of Jeff and Ronnie are going to be wrong. Jeff was incorrect because I forgot that he was in the athlete clique so Jesse can’t nominate him. I am starting to have second thoughts about Ronnie as well because he did make a pact with Jesse in week one. Even though Russell was a target last week, Jesse advocated for him to remain in the house primarily because Russell was the bigger target. Will he apply the same logic with Ronnie? Doesn’t matter because I am a man and thus won’t admit I am wrong so I will stick with my nomination predictions of Ronnie and Jeff.
The teaser for the show was a bit interesting. One reason was they showed Laura. I don’t remember them showing Braden after he left the house but I guess the producers felt showing Laura in her bikini was pertinent to this episode. My second reason for interest was the discussion of a possible love triangle between Jesse, Lydia, and Natalie. I am going to shock you here, I am not mad at Jesse if Natalie has a thing for him and not just because I know I have no chance with her. Every episode so far, where you see Natalie, you see Jesse so its not really a leap of faith to assume that those two might eventually hook up if they haven’t already. Lydia getting into the mix was a bit strange only because I thought she mentioned she had a boyfriend already. I wonder if it will be a swerve and Lydia has a thing for Natalie? I can honestly say that would be of little interest to me. The idea of two women getting together once was appealing but then I realized what is sexy about it if I am not involved? Even threesomes are not as appealing anymore. Imagine all the work involved especially on the part of the guy. Wait, what was the point of this? Oh yeah! Even though I suspect Lydia and Natalie may both have a thing for Jesse, whatever scenario it actually is, I do not really care. One scenario is lame because if Lydia does have a boyfriend and is going after to Jesse that would be sleazy. If its Lydia going after Natalie, read above for why that doesn’t interest me much either.
The show starts off with the house guests reiterating in so many different ways, what I said in my last post, Jesse winning is the best case scenario for Ronnie. It doesn’t guarantee him safety but it gives him a shot of staying in the house beyond this week. We are a little over seven minutes into the show, and I am quickly getting frustrated. I thought maybe it was the humidity of my room but it turns out it was the discussion of backdooring Ronnie. While being put up as a pawn is risky, execution of backdooring someone is just as risky. So much has to go right. Obviously you have to hope Ronnie doesn’t win power of veto but what is less obvious but just as important, you have to assume everyone will continue to be on board with the plan. Ronnie has acted like a douche but time does heal all wounds or at least partially. You can’t assume people won’t reconsider Ronnie’s position in the game after the veto ceremony. I am hoping CBS moves away from this discussion but I know I am just wasting my time.
I might have spoken too soon. A couple of minutes later we learn that Casey is on the radar of the athletes. This could be CBS blowing smoke up our asses (especially with the diary room and action obviously being taped out of sequence (Casey and Russell did not make Big Brother producers happy by shaving their mustaches after the HoH competition)) but this might be legit. We learn Russell made a hush-hush deal with Ronnie less than 48 hours before the eviction ceremony and Jesse again states that Ronnie out doesn’t necessarily work in his favor.
The house guests now get to see Jesse’s HoH room and Big Brother officially sets up the love triangle. Jordan makes the comment that Jesse loves him some Jesse and that some women might find that impressive. The next two camera shots are of Natalie and the Lydia. How random. It was brief but they did show them on camera again but this time it appeared Lydia gave Natalie a nasty look for encroaching on her territory, her territory being Jesse. Then something strange happens, a house guest recognizes the obvious, a rare occurrence in the Big Brother household.
In the backyard Casey, Jeff, and Jordan are talking about the plan to kick out Ronnie and then Natalie walks out and joins them. She listens to them but doesn’t deceive them in anyway as they discuss the plan. Instead she just nods her head and leaves. I was ready to write passionately about her great game play but I waited for the reaction of Casey, Jeff, and Jordan. Even though they can’t see everything we see, they know from week one that Ronnie and the athletes have had an alliance. Maybe it wasn’t wise of Casey to talk openly about evicting Ronnie in front of Natalie. Guess what, moments after she left, that is what Casey said! Yay for picking up on the obvious house guest Casey! I know that sounds sarcastic but I really am proud of him. This leads to Natalie talking to Jesse and once again bringing up the idea of how dangerous Casey is in this game. Don’t worry folks, that does not change who I think will be nominated even if one of them, Jeff, can’t be a nominee as of this point in the show. That closes segment one of the show.
Segment two starts off with Jesse and Lydia in the hammock. For those who don’t know, the hammock in Big Brother has magical powers because if you get in there with a member of the opposite sex, assuming you are straight, you have a good chance of getting some action. Big Brother hints at that by interlacing stereotypical porno music beats with their normal elevator music. Lydia admits she has a crush on Jesse in the diary room. While in the hammock with Jesse she tries to have a meaningful conversation with him about relationships but he isn’t listening and just comments about parts of her body. Since high school doesn’t seem to be a bright spot in Lydia’s life, I thought she would stop the course of discussion because she would remember, like in high school, even though she had a thing for the jocks or popular kids, they ignored her. She continues on though and her persistence pays off because Jesse tells her that he thinks she is cute. It didn’t escalate any farther but I think Lydia won’t have any trouble falling asleep tonight. I won’t give my reasons but lets just call it a hunch.
There was more Lydia and Jesse one on one time but before we get to that Big Brother has an ‘oh yeah’ moment by informing the audience at home that Ronnie needs to rebuild some of the bridges he burned. While many of the female viewers at home were angry at this interruption, no matter how brief it was, I thought it was pretty significant because Ronnie admitted to Michele that he lied about voting Braden out of the house. This was the first time the viewing audience at home has heard Ronnie admit to a lie directly. That’s a serious development. Michele is wary of trusting him but I don’t think she is right in Ronnie trying to play her, which he probably is, but I think his overriding feelings right now is that of desperation. He knows a lot of people are targeting him. To me, I think Ronnie is just desperate to stay in the house. He might be playing Michele but I am not sure if its priority one at the moment. Okay ladies, back to more of Jesse and Lydia action!
Lydia finally gets that kiss from Jesse but its via his hand. Awww!!! Don’t worry though, it gets better…for me! Natalie with a few of the other house guests come outside and break up Lydia and Jesse’s alone time. No, I am not rooting for Natalie to hook up with Jesse, I am just a fan of Natalie getting more tv time. Seriously though, we are about to go back to high school – CW style! Lydia feels threatened and needs a breather so she goes and gets a glass of water. In the twenty seconds that she was away, Natalie gets more comfortable by invite of Jesse and now there is nowhere for Lydia to sit, at least next to Jesse, anymore. Please don’t judge me for what I am about to admit but even though I am in my late twenties I did watch this season of 90210 and based on 90210 storyline, which we know mimics every single high school in America, Lydia feels even more insecure now. Right now she feels insecure because she lost her alone time with the ‘hunk’ but she is about to feel even more insecure when she finds out Jesse was the one who eliminated her seat. Add those together, she is going to feel EVEN MORE insecure because in her mind, Jesse is going after Natalie even though she has put in time going after Jesse. The only hole in my theory is Natalie, Jesse, and Lydia are all twenty-something but remember, I am a man so I am not going to change my theory, not now, not ever.
Oh wait, I did not count on something. Jesse caresses Natalie in the way Lydia has been wanting Jesse to caress her. The kicker here is he does it right in front of Lydia and Natalie definitely seems like she is enjoying herself. This is playing out like a female R&B video. There are still more layers to be discussed here! The rest of the house knows how both Natalie and Lydia feel about Jesse yet Jesse continues to fondle Natalie in front of Lydia and the house guests. Wow! You probably think I am getting some kind of sick pleasure out of this but I am not. Who among us has not had a crush on someone only to see that person happy with someone who is not you? I don’t relish in the inner turmoil of Lydia, I relish that I am predicting the outcome play for play. This is a bonus for the tv audience but may have crushed Lydia if she had seen it. As soon as Lydia leaves, Natalie and Jesse aren’t feeling each other up anymore. Its like they only were earlier to put on a show for Lydia. Wasn’t that a plot of a movie? Was it Carrie? I can’t remember. Anyway, we close out this part of the show with Natalie saying she thinks Lydia doesn’t like her and we find out Jesse knows the two women are after him. Some people might say he has no interest in either one but no more than ten minutes ago, Jesse in his own way, admitted in the diary room admitted he wasn’t very very open about his feelings. Maybe he has a thing for Natalie, maybe he has a thing for Lydia, maybe both, but no one really knows except Jesse.
The producers remind us that this is a game and refocuses on it again. Michele goes up to talk to Jesse (he isn’t alone, I will give you one guess who is in bed with him) about a possible alliance. Two things troubled me here. Actually, one thing troubled me and the other had me conflicted. I am troubled because I thought Ronnie secured an alliance between the brains and the athletes week one so why does Michele feel threatened? Thinking about it, I think maybe that alliance is over for at least her because she voted Chima out instead of Braden out week one. What I am conflicted about was Michele’s failure to secure Jesse and Natalie for next week if she happens to win HoH. I respect her honesty but even I know she should have just acquiesced and promised them safety. Still though, I respect her honesty but I fear it might hurt her. That’s how segment two ends.
Segment three begins with a focus on the ‘have nots’ for this week. I find the house guests complaints about eating slop tiring so I am going to tell you why I wouldn’t mind slop, at least for right now in my life. I like 2/3rds of Americans need to go on a diet and actually am on one. Slop would be great. I don’t know what it is but I have to assume it has the essential vitamins and amino acids the body needs or that would be torture on the part of the show’s producers and open them up to a lawsuit. Also, it would benefit me because if I don’t want to eat slop, I am not going to eat. That’s not the ideal way to lose a few pounds but it will work. Also I am not a fan of public restrooms so avoiding the bathroom is another benefit. The ‘have nots’ also sleep on a hard bed and take cold showers. The hard bed isn’t that bad and is pretty good for those with back problems. Its not something you want to lie on for the rest of your life but it does help with improving lumbar support. I can understand not wanting to take the cold shower though. I don’t drink coffee to perk me up in the morning, I take a hot shower. I will only sympathize about the lack of hot water situation, nothing else.
Of course this bitchfest leads us to the food, I mean have/have not competition. Again, this stuff bores me so I am going to go off on another tangent. For those American Idol fans, doesn’t Jordan remind you of Kelly Pickler? I think they are both from North Carolina too. I wonder if that played a role in her selection onto the show. Anyway, you know what was nice about the food competition? Kevin, Jordan, and Chima were the competitors. That was pretty even. I applaud each team for making this an even competition on paper. Let us hope it actually translates into that off paper. First thing I learn is that beer goggles actually do exist. I have never drank before so I was unaware of this. I know its a metaphor for vision after getting intoxicated but the goggles the house guests used, I am unclear how it could make anyone look better. Isn’t that the key thing to beer goggles or do I not know what beer goggles are? Whatever.
Damnit, I am going to have to describe the competition in order to complain about it. The three team representatives drove around on electric carts and collected foam/sponge ice cubes and threw it into an oil drum of the team they wanted to be on slop for that week. At the end of fifteen minutes, the team w/ the most ice cubes in their drum would be the have nots for the week. My complaint is if they wanted to make this competition really challenging, they should not have used motorized carts. Imagine having to ride a tricycle or one of those sit down bikes at the gym. How long did you last at the fastest setting you could handle? Exactly.
I want to take this time to apoligize to Jordan and Jeff for referring to them as dumb in a previous post. I might not have but I certainly was thinking it and it was wrong of me. I felt a bit sorry for Jordan because she became her team’s representative by default since she was the only one left in the house from the popular clique. Chima and Kevin (and by accident Jordan) kept throwing ice cubes in her drum and I could understand why. Its better to have one house guest angry at you for making them a have not than an entire team. Still though, I felt for Jordan. Fortunately though, she won! The brains will be the have nots for this week. A couple of the house guests in/directly said the brains were the target in the competition because of Ronnie. It gets worse when they find out the first America’s Choice is what food item they can eat along with slop. I didn’t vote but I do remember the choices weren’t very appetizing. America selected cabbage and cocktail weenies. You know what, it could have been worse. Cabbage isn’t that bad and the weenies might taste good after cooking them.
After wrapping up the competition, we see Jordan go up to the HoH room to plead for safety. Jesse isn’t alone and again I will give you one guess who is in bed with him but because I am a nice guy, I will give you a hint. It was the same person who was in bed with him when Michele came in to talk with Jesse. Jordan uses a different approach than Michele (at least from what we saw on tv) in that she just wants to reinforce the idea of Ronnie going home. We get a feeling that off-air there was discussion of putting Jordan up as a pawn based on what she said in the diary room, otherwise why immediately afterwards (again, I am assuming she went to the diary room after seeing Jesse) would she talk mostly about avoiding being a pawn versus talking more about getting Ronnie out?
The show returns and we see Russell and Kevin in the hammock. Will hammock magic work on these two? Russell is sporting the pornstar mustache and those who know their porn, the male pornstars don’t start off doing straight porn. I think they are safe for now because they are facing each other feet to head…even though their middles are aligned. Basically they discuss relationships and of course, I tune out. More words of wisdom about the differences between the sexes from your host, me! Guys don’t care about other guys relationships, only other women’s relationships and that’s only for the women we are interested in. Women care about everyone’s relationship regardless of their interest in one of the partners in a particular relationship. Back to the show.
I am not exactly sure what is going on here but Natalie and Lydia are having an argument about sleeping together. Lydia wants to share a bed with Natalie but Natalie is not having any of that. Okay, I understand that but Natalie says she doesn’t want to give up her bed but Lydia says Natalie is the only one who hasn’t slept with someone and that Lydia always has. Natalie asks why she has to give up her bed so does that mean Lydia wants the entire bed? If so, why did she mention she will bunk with Natalie tonight initially? Maybe watching a little more of the show will give a clearer outlook. Nope, I am still unsure if Lydia wants Natalie’s bed to herself of Natalie doesn’t want to share her bed with Lydia. What happens next is something we have seen before, Natalie goes to Jesse to vent while Lydia tries to handle her anger internally. Each is a potential problem. Natalie trying to push Jesse away from Lydia is bad because Jesse is trying to insulate himself as much as possible and Natalie not wanting to work with Lydia makes Jesse feel less insulated because he has to now make a choice. Lydia trying to internalize her feelings hasn’t produced positive results to date and will likely lead to her either having an outburst or saying or doing the wrong thing to the wrong person. Turns out there would be no outburst. Instead Lydia wants the same thing as Natalie, Jesse w/ no appendage (for Natalie, the appendage is Lydia, for Lydia, the appendage is Natalie). Jesse now might be forced into a corner here and have to pick a side. By the way, I now see why Jesse thinks Lydia is cute. Without the make-up and the glasses she has a very pretty face. I like the natural look, I think that is part of the reason why I think Natalie is cute as well.
The segment closes out and we are now left with only nominations to be named. I am going to do something unorthodox and admit I am wrong. There is no way Jeff is going to be a nominee now. I won’t even name a replacement. I do find it curious though that the focus hasn’t been on Ronnie for much of the show. He might still be nominated but I am not so sure. I hope the plan still isn’t to backdoor him. Backdooring while devious is so, so tricky. Its easier said than done.
The nominations are in:
-Russel, Natalie, and Jeff are safe this week because they are part of the athletes clique.
- Chima is safe.
- Kevin is safe.
- Casey is safe.
- Lydia is safe.
- Ronnie is safe.
Your nominees are Michele and Jordan. I am going to wait until after the last moments of the show to comment because Ronnie’s key surprised me. Maybe Jesse’s explanation clears the air. He does not really clear the air. He doesn’t think of either nominee as a real threat but doesn’t say they are pawns either. Jesse does leave room to backdoor someone and I have a feeling that he won’t backdoor Ronnie. The house wants Ronnie gone but if Ronnie stays this week, Ronnie will still likely be the biggest target next week so why eliminate the easy target now when someone else may do it for you later? In other news, I felt sorry for Michele and Jordan. Michele because she really does feel isolated in the house and thus an easy target. She almost broke down and cried. Jordan because she continues to watch her team be targeted and so far has not been successful in thwarting any of the attacks.
I know the next show is the veto show and making predictions now wouldn’t be too smart but I feel safe in predicting that the rundown of the veto show will be , is Jesse planning on backdooring someone and if so, will he be successful? Tune in and check back for my thoughts!
