Labyrinth turns 25
When I was a kid, one of my favorite movies was Labyrinth, starring David Bowie. The combination of Bowie and Jim Henson basically blew my mind. This week, Labyrinth turned 25 years old. Clearly, it didn’t just have an impact on me… … Read entire article »

A slice of TRON: Legacy
As most of you know, I wasn’t a huge fan of TRON: Legacy. One of the reasons was that it felt like a Matrix rip off instead of something that evolved from the visually rad original TRON. In addition, I felt like the characters and the plot were secondary to the effects. It had your run-of-the-mill action movie storyline and the characters were really just caricatures or stereotypes. Looking for an example? Just check out the eccentric chap in the clip below. … Read entire article »

A blunder of first date rules
You might remember Diana Glazier from her awesome ‘Sex and the City Movie’ review a while back. Well she’s back again and this time she’s laying down the law for guys on first dates. In my recent string of first dates, I have discovered that the chivalrous act of the guy paying on the first date has completely lost its charm. Matt, a successful fitness instructor and model, asked me out to dinner a few weeks after he began calling me. He took me to a tasty downtown sushi restaurant on our first date. I eyeballed his body language as he proudly spoke about his portfolio and perfectly crafted abs. I deemed him to be successful, accomplished, and polite. He was not particularly my type, but I eased myself into the date … Read entire article »

Pineapple Express sequel?
MTV.com posted this today … Rogen indulged the possibility of a “Pineapple Express” sequel. “Of all the movies we’ve done, that’s the only one that I would actually like to do a sequel to and we talk about it,” Rogen told us…. As someone who LOVED that film and is a huge fan of Rogen, James Franco and Danny McBride, I’d love another chance to watch them on screen together. … Read entire article »

John Mayer chose Twitter over Jennifer Aniston
If you needed more proof that Twitter is awesome, just take a look at what DListed (via showbizspy.com) had to say about John Mayer and Jennifer Aniston: Star Magazine thinks they know the real reason why the fartytale romance of this generation was flushed down the toilet. The reason is TWITTER! Jennifer Aniston was apparently completely over John Mayer choosing his Twitter over her twatter. Showbizspy went into detail saying: A source says, “John suddenly stopped calling her or returning her emails and when she would finally catch up with him, he’d say: ‘I’ve been so busy with work. I’m sorry I haven’t had time to call you back’. “Jen was fuming. There he was, telling her he didn’t have time for her and yet his page was filled with Twitter updates. Basically, this confirms two things: Jennifer … Read entire article »

Basketball Diaries from Planet Orange
Occasionally, it dawns on me that a lot of people I know aren’t on Twitter and haven’t seen my frequent (and some might say incessant) updates from the last week. As a result, I’m writing this blog as a continuation of my first “Basketball Diaries” post–which has nothing to do with Jim Carroll,Leonardo DiCaprio, or heroin–to detail the action, intrigue and adventure during my most recent trip out to the desert to spend some time with the Phoenix Suns…. Tweetarded
Due to twessages coming in from every direction I will do my best to find the most tweetarded conversations taking place in the celebrity tweets. Welcome to the most Tweetarded convo ever between Tila Tequila and Megan McCain? Ummm I thought your dad hated the gays, bisexuals, and transgendered people of the world. How would conservative paapaa feel you watching A Shot at Love? And very Asian Tila, stop trying to brand yourself on alcohol Hispanic people made its kind of annoying. We gave you rice which is a bigger deal/win than what you think. … Read entire article »

Midway Games Sponsors Movie?
This is Wil Chinchilla from Trashwire.com and I’m here at SXSW Film + Interactive covering everything that is going on in both festivals. I was at the after party for the new gamer movie 2 Bobs that is going to show again tomorrow. As I was talking to people from promotion I saw a screen that was looping a trailer video. I took a picture of the screen and I wondered why Midway’s Logo would be on the screen if they have filed for chapter 11. Did they sponsor the movie?? If so with what money? This is the picture taken on a very crappy camera phone showing the logo of the very poor company … Read entire article »

Eddie Murphy to play Richard Pryor in biopic
On the heels of the post about board games becoming blockbusters, I want to acknowledge this absolute blasphemy. This has been posted all over the internet, but here’s the story from Ain’t It Cool: HitFix and Entertainment Weekly are reporting that Fox Searchlight will finance Bill Condon’s $25 million biopic RICHARD PRYOR: IS IT SOMETHING I SAID?, for which Murphy will waive his usual eight-figure fee in order to play his lifelong idol. This might have been a fantastic idea in 1985 when Eddie Murphy was cutting edge and funny. Since then, he’s thrilled audiences with such garbage as Daddy Day Care, Norbit and Honkey Grandma Be Trippin’–oh wait, that one’s a Tracy Jordan joint. In short, I can’t imagine him playing one of the greatest comedians of all time, and … Read entire article »

From board game to big screen
From Variety Universal has attached Gore Verbinski to develop “Clue,” a live-action murder mystery based on the Hasbro board game that he would direct. [...] “Clue” is one of the few board games to surpass $1 billion in sales, in more than 50 markets. It was developed in England by a retired legal clerk named Anthony Pratt during WWII and released in 1948. A previous film version was released in 1985. I remember the “previous film version” and it was awesome! I have a general rule that Hollywood should never re-make anything starring Tim Curry because there is simply no way to top his performances. Just look at Rocky Horror, which is also supposedly being remade. I can’t even imagine anyone else playing Dr. Frank-N-Furter–seriously, my mind can’t conceive of it! But that’s not the only … Read entire article »

The Whitest Kids U’ Know live in Denver
I have been a fan of the Whitest Kids U’Know since back in the day when the series was on Fuse. Trashwire even featured a piece about the evolution of tv sketch comedy focusing on WKUK as well as other sketch shows like Human Giant and the short-lived Acceptable TV. Last Monday, I capped off an outrageously fun weekend by heading to the Oriental Theatre in Denver where all five members of the Whitest Kids U’Know were performing live. Basketball Diaries from NBA All-Star Weekend
One big hole in Trashwire has always been the absence of a sports section. As the primary writer for the site, I’m usually too busy writing about which silicone bimbo got the boot from Rock of Love to pay much attention to the wide world of sports, but lately a few sporting events have started to pique my interest. First, I covered the Super Bowl… or rather, the commercials that were on during the Super Bowl, but that’s a start, right? Then I debated adding some coverage of the Phoenix Suns season because I love watching their games. I decided that covering only one team wouldn’t really give us a “fair and balanced” sports section, and since many of our readers live in Denver, people would start to wonder why I … Read entire article »
