Proof that I rule – My interview with Blazer’s Edge
I recently did an interview with Ben from Blazer’s Edge, which he published on the site today. He titled the post “Alexis Gentry Rules” which means I can now say that my rad-ness is well documented and scientifically proven. Here’s a quick snippet of his intro… Alexis is Alvin’s computer-savvy, writing-whiz, self-described “fan of pop culture” and “geek-speaking” daughter. She is the founder of a website TrashWire.com and is, perhaps, the only person alive who could convince an NBA Lifer like Alvin Gentry to plug into the latest social networking craze. On her blog and in article-style posts, she has detailed some of the times she’s spend behind the scenes with her father and the Suns team. It’s well-worth your time. Basketball Diaries from Planet Orange
Occasionally, it dawns on me that a lot of people I know aren’t on Twitter and haven’t seen my frequent (and some might say incessant) updates from the last week. As a result, I’m writing this blog as a continuation of my first “Basketball Diaries” post–which has nothing to do with Jim Carroll,Leonardo DiCaprio, or heroin–to detail the action, intrigue and adventure during my most recent trip out to the desert to spend some time with the Phoenix Suns…. SXSW Review: ‘My Suicide’ Showcases Wonderful Talent All Around
This film that is subtitled the “Self-Inflicted Comedy” showcases a large group of experienced and inexperienced talent. Archie (Gabriel Sunday) hates his life because he feels nothing. Archie is a movie fiend that records everything in his meaningless life. After he is asked what his class project would be for his film class he says that he wants to kill himself on camera. After he says this in class and gets arrested, he systematically becomes the popular weird kid. Students come up to Archie just to tell him he’s sick, he’s cool, he’s right. The student he least expects to talk to him is perfect girl, Sierra (Brooke Nevin), who wants to film Archie’s response to the question, “Why does he want to kill himself on tape?” After discovering why, the … Read entire article »

Film + Interactive= Happy SXSW
A definite and important decision that the people that run the SXSW Festival(s) was made for 2009. This year for the first time Film + Interactive was linked for specific panels and areas of the convention. This was absolutely a smart move on their part because film is not so different from Interactive because both involve technical detail that is viewed on a screen, a controller and some buttons set them apart. Some of the best linked panels included: Robert Rodriguez and Henry Selick Comedy on TV and the Web with Sean Mills (The Onion), B.J. Novak (The Office), Keith Richman (Break.com), Meredith Scardino (Cobert Report), Ricky Van Veen, moderator (CollegeHumor.com) Suprisingly Meredith was one of the funniest panelist and its very obvious why. SXSW Film Awards Winners and Kickoff to Music
This years Film Festival was bigger than ever. Although it isn’t officially over, there are still tons of movies to see. Some of which have won an award at this year’s film festival. Throughout the rest of the week badge holders can still see some of the movies at any of the theaters showcasing them. Still, the madness will enrage because the Music portion of the festival started yesterday and will continue until Sunday. Even though there are tons of official SXSW parties there are even more unofficial SXSW music parties. One band that I have heard in Austin that deserves some attention is this band from Oz called Porcelain. Just walking around I heard sick vocals and decided to watch their show; it was amazing. Midway Games Sponsors Movie?
This is Wil Chinchilla from Trashwire.com and I’m here at SXSW Film + Interactive covering everything that is going on in both festivals. I was at the after party for the new gamer movie 2 Bobs that is going to show again tomorrow. As I was talking to people from promotion I saw a screen that was looping a trailer video. I took a picture of the screen and I wondered why Midway’s Logo would be on the screen if they have filed for chapter 11. Did they sponsor the movie?? If so with what money? This is the picture taken on a very crappy camera phone showing the logo of the very poor company … Read entire article »

The Whitest Kids U’ Know live in Denver
I have been a fan of the Whitest Kids U’Know since back in the day when the series was on Fuse. Trashwire even featured a piece about the evolution of tv sketch comedy focusing on WKUK as well as other sketch shows like Human Giant and the short-lived Acceptable TV. Last Monday, I capped off an outrageously fun weekend by heading to the Oriental Theatre in Denver where all five members of the Whitest Kids U’Know were performing live. Basketball Diaries from NBA All-Star Weekend
One big hole in Trashwire has always been the absence of a sports section. As the primary writer for the site, I’m usually too busy writing about which silicone bimbo got the boot from Rock of Love to pay much attention to the wide world of sports, but lately a few sporting events have started to pique my interest. First, I covered the Super Bowl… or rather, the commercials that were on during the Super Bowl, but that’s a start, right? Then I debated adding some coverage of the Phoenix Suns season because I love watching their games. I decided that covering only one team wouldn’t really give us a “fair and balanced” sports section, and since many of our readers live in Denver, people would start to wonder why I … Read entire article »

Attack of the Diablo Cody fans
I recently published a review of Diablo Cody’s new series, United States of Tara, on Trashwire. In the review, I talked about how I tried to get into the show, but found the teenage dialogue so annoying that I just couldn’t make it through a second episode. As I was getting ready to go to bed last night, I saw that a few people had already responded and even had a couple messages in my inbox about the review. Apparently Cody is a sacred cow in this crazy series of tubes that is the interweb because people were downright pissed that I’d described her writing as anything less than stellar.
