An Idiot Abroad finally comes to the U.S.
Before Ricky Gervais was pissing people off at the Golden Globes or writing the original version of The Office with friend and writing partner Stephen Merchant, he was marveling at the brain of Karl Pilkington, a radio producer assigned to the duo for their program. In fact, anyone who has listened to the widely popular Ricky Gervais Show podcasts or watched The Ricky Gervais Show on HBO is familiar with the musings of this “little, round-headed, … Read entire article »

New judges bring much-needed street cred to Idol
During the past couple of years, many fans jumped off the American Idol train, partly because the show started to feel so formulaic and the judges seemed as uninterested as the audience. After all, the judge’s shtick got predictable to put it mildly. … Read entire article »

The A-Team: The Looks, The Brains, The Muscle and The Wild Card… oh, and lots of explosions

South Park still brilliantly skewering current events
Last night marked the premiere of the 14th season of South Park with Trey Parker and Matt Stone taking on the Tiger Woods sex scandal. The controversy was handled in typical South Park fashion, which usually involves the current event being tied to a conspiracy that might destroy the world. Nobody makes fun of Hollywood disaster flicks like Parker and Stone and this format has served the show well over the past 13 years. As they say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. This season should be no different with the show bringing the jokes while skewering current events. … Read entire article »

Whatever, Martha! sharp, funny and incredibly amusing
When someone asks me what my favorite show is, I usually say South Park, 30 Rock or It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. While I do love those shows, there are a whole slew of other great shows, buried in the nether regions of deep cable, that I TiVo religiously but typically forget about when compiling a list of faves. FLN’s Whatever, Martha! definitely falls into that category. … Read entire article »

Same jokes different character on The Cleveland Show
The story of Family Guy is a miraculous one: Seth MacFarlane creates a TV show that gets cancelled by FOX, only to be resurrected by fans after finding new life on DVD. But the unfortunate side effect of this success story is that it now seems FOX believes MacFarlane can do no wrong and has granted him two additional animated series, the less-funny American Dad and the newest, completely un-funny addition, The Cleveland Show. … Read entire article »

Modern Family a fresh take on the network sitcom
This might sound like a backhanded compliment, but ABC’s new series Modern Family is way better than you would expect for a family comedy on network TV. Typically network comedy means we see the same generic character types and jokes about as fresh as ripe Gorgonzola delivered by actors on well-lit Hollywood sets in front of a live studio audience. Modern Family, which premieres Wednesday September 23rd at 9/8c on ABC, drops the canned laughter and utilizes the pseudo-documentary style popularized by great comedies like The Office to showcase the lives of a set of interconnected families in your typical suburb. … Read entire article »
