Lisa Lampanelli, the “Queen of Mean”, is one of the filthiest comedians around… she is also one of the funniest. You might know her from her show-stealing performance at The Comedy Central Roast of Pamela Anderson or from her special Take It Like a Man.  I was lucky enough to catch her show at Denver’s Comedy Works and I’m still catching my breath from laughing so hard.

While some might compare Lampanelli’s foul-mouthed sense of humor to comedians like Sarah Silverman or Andrew Dice Clay, she is actually much quicker and more evolved than these comedians. Lampanelli shocks audiences with hilarious insults that feel completely natural and not forced. For her, it’s less important that it’s shocking (like with Silverman or Margaret Cho) and more important that it’s funny.

Lampanelli attacks the audience with rapid-fire humor and leaves no stereotype untouched. Sitting in the audience, you feel like you must be the only insensitive prick who is twisted enough to find all this funny until you look around and see people sitting around you gasping for air through laughter. She manages to find people in the audience and zero in on what stereotypes they display with the accuracy of a stealth bomber. She’s like a comedy warrior: she goes in, she sizes up the audience, and then she attacks. At our particular show, not even the two pregnant women in the audience were safe as Lampanelli hilariously yelled, “Do what I did, have it at prom and flush!”

She is definitely not a comedian for the sensitive and self-conscious, but people with balls, and people who bust balls, can appreciate her.
