From the Szechuan sauce debacle to Star Wars: The Last Jedi rage, so-called fans are destroying the communities they claim to love. 0

Fans are why we can’t have nice things

This year, we saw some pretty crappy “fan” behavior, from Rick and Morty fans storming McDonald’s for dipping sauce to Star Wars fans claiming The Last Jedi ruined their childhoods. Was it always like this, or were fans of 2017 just way, way too passionate about pop culture?

Prince 1958-2016

Like with Michael Jackson and David Bowie, I couldn’t even conceive of a world where the was no Prince. He’s engrained in the cultural backbone of generations, and people like that never truly die. So today, I’m sitting at my computer listening to Purple Rain over and over again and remembering the legendary entertainer who will always be a part of our collective hearts.

‘Amy’ a haunting cautionary tale

I wish a documentary like Amy was shocking because we didn’t see talented people self-destruct on the regular, but sadly, Amy Winehouse’s story is all too commonplace. Unlike your average Behind the Music rock doc, Amy doesn’t flower things up for a made-for-TV package. Instead, it shows us the stark reality of such a talented person’s demise, and leaves us reflecting on why so many of our most talented entertainers meet a similar fate.

Straight Outta Compton is one of the best movies of the year 1

‘Straight Outta Compton’ does justice to hip hop legends

The first CD I ever bought was Snoop Dogg’s “Doggystyle”, which was quickly followed by Dr. Dre’s “The Chronic”, and thus began my love of 1990s gangsta rap. I was a little too young to know the story of N.W.A., so naturally, I was beyond excited for Straight Outta Compton. Thankfully, the movie more than exceeds all my astronomical expectations.
