Looking forward to ‘Last Week Tonight with John Oliver’

Looking forward to ‘Last Week Tonight with John Oliver’

When I heard that Stephen Colbert would be taking over for David Letterman, I was both happy for him and completely devastated. I live for The Colbert Report. The nightly block of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report has become a staple for me. I can’t live with just one satirical news show! Thankfully, HBO handed us a little gift in Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. … Read entire article »

An Idiot Abroad finally comes to the U.S.

An Idiot Abroad finally comes to the U.S.

Before Ricky Gervais was pissing people off at the Golden Globes or writing the original version of The Office with friend and writing partner Stephen Merchant, he was marveling at the brain of Karl Pilkington, a radio producer assigned to the duo for their program. In fact, anyone who has listened to the widely popular Ricky Gervais Show podcasts or watched The Ricky Gervais Show on HBO is familiar with the musings of this “little, round-headed, … Read entire article »

Twilight: Eclipse is like True Blood for tweens

When I want to watch sexy vampires and werewolves, I choose True Blood, but if I was ten years younger, I’d be swooning over the sparkly vampires and ab-tastic werewolves in the Twilight movies. If the first film and its sequel New Moon were burgeoning with sexual undertones masquerading as tween-friendly melodrama, then Eclipse is practically porn. … Read entire article »

Vintage Trashwire Review – Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny

When George Lucas decided to revive the Star Wars saga, it was his goal to give fans a back-story of how exactly Anakin Skywalker transformed into Darth Vader. We knew how the story ended, but he wanted to show everyone how it began. Unfortunately for Lucas, the new Star Wars trilogy was, by most accounts, not very good. Unlike Lucas, when Tenacious D aims to tell audiences the history of how they became the greatest band in the world, they do a damn good job of it. The basic story involves Jack Black and Kyle Gass’ epic quest to obtain the Pick of Destiny, a mystical guitar pick fashioned from Satan’s tooth. In Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny, we learn the back-story for the formation of The D, from … Read entire article »
