According to my Letterboxd stats, I’ve watched over 300 movies in 2025 and finally narrowed down the list to my top 10 favorite films of the year.
It’s no surprise that my list features some outstanding Indian films, considering nearly 60% of the films I watched in 2025 were from India. As much as I love a gigantic, testosterone-fueled mass commercial movie, it was female-driven Indian stories that most impressed me this year, with Varsha Bharath’s Bad Girl, Rahul Ravindran’s The Girlfriend, and Dominic Arun’s Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra being major standouts.
Horror also earned a few spots on my list, with Zach Cregger’s Weapons ranking in the top 5, and two vampire films that deeply connect with culture scoring high rankings.
Great music was also an important factor, with Devi Sri Prasad’s outstanding work on Kuberaa and Ludwig Göransson’s stellar Sinners score solidifying those films as faves. The incredible oner in Sinners and Kuberaa’s “Poyiraa Mama” were among my all-time favorite musical moments in film.
