With so many great movies released in 2023, it was easy to overlook some of these underrated gems. From animated indies to CGI wonders, the movies on this list definitely deserve a watch.

Blackberry

This movie got a bit lost in the shuffle of business biopics like Tetris and Air, but it was the best of the bunch with great performances and excellent direction. Read my review here or watch my quick review on TikTok and Instagram.

Polite Society

It’s such a shame this fun, funny film flew under the radar when it was released. With a great cast, a fun story, and some great fight scenes, this one was a blast. Read my full review or watch my quick review on TikTok and Instagram.

Robot Dreams

This underseen animated film is simultaneously sweet and heartbreaking, like the animated equivalent of Past Lives. If you didn’t think you could be emotionally moved by the relationship between a dog and his robot, think again.

This movie came out when everyone was too preoccupied with Barbenheimer to take a chance on something smaller, but this creative new take Blaxploitation is definitely worth a watch. Check out my quick review on TikTok and Instagram.
